Here are some of the most popular and most played wedding games at Indian weddings! :

1)      The Ring Search : Played predominantly at North Indian sangeets and wedding reception parties, this wedding game revolves around a ring which is immersed into a decorated bowl filled with milk and rose petals. Sand is deposited into the bowl and the ring is carefully stirred in it. The bride and groom are then supposed to dig into the bowl and find out the ring.

The winner gets the upper hand in marriage! – Or so, it is believed!

2)      Knotted In Love : In this wedding game, a small thread, often sacred, is tied tightly by the couple on each other’s hands. Given a fixed time period like 30-40 seconds, the bride has to remove the thread from the groom’s hands and vice versa – using just one hand!!

3)      Hiding the Shoes : This wedding game is for the sisters of the bride! On entering the wedding mandap, the groom has to remove his shoes.  The sisters of the bride hide these shoes and hold it ransom for gifts and money!

Poor groom! – He better come to the mandap with lots of cash – and an extra pair of shoes!

4)      Mehandi Love : A game the girls just love to play! On the mehandi night, the mehandi artist hides the alphabets of the groom’s name in the design on the bride’s hands. The groom should find out all the alphabets by searching through the intricate designs and give the bride a gift!

5)      Silence is Golden : Popular among Marwadi and Rajasthani weddings, in this wedding game, the bride when entering the groom’s home is entitled a task! – A set of steel thaalis of numerous sizes are arranged on the floor. As she enters the house, she has to pick up each thaali and stack them up together without dropping it and making any noise.

The less noise she makes, the more peaceful her marital life will be – is the belief!

6)      Coorgi Wedding Games : In a Coorgi wedding, the bride is to carry a medium-sized decorated pot on her head and walk towards a well in the compound. Her strength and grit is tested by the male dominants on the groom’s side. They will block and tease her and prevent her from approaching the well. The bride should be smart enough to find an easy way to get to the well and if not, should bear the humiliation and teasing for hours!
