Wedding in an ancestral property has always been a dream for many. Now, such a wedding is possible in Kerala.

Wedding in an ancestral property has its own beauty. You can stay in this property and conduct a wedding or an engagement. A traditional ancestral home offers a lot more than just a place to stay and conduct weddings. It has features and components which are unique. The features of an ancestral property are as follows:

Padippura

It is a structure containing a door forming part of compound wall for the house with a tiled roof on top. It is the formal entry to the compound with the house.

Poomukham

It is where you enter the house climbing up steps in the front. It has a slope tiled roof with pillars supporting the roof.

Charupady

By the side of the Poomukham, wooden benches with carved decorative resting wooden pieces for resting the back are provided. This is called Charupady.

Living Room

In an ancestral property, after the Poomukham, you enter the living room where formal seating arrangement is provided for the guests. This is one of the larger rooms of the house.

Nadumuttom

Nadumuttom or central open courtyard is an open square-shaped area in the exact middle of the house dividing it into four sides. Houses with one Nadumuttom is called as Nalukettu house. The Nadumuttom of an ancestral property is open to the sky. Here, you can organize small functions like Mehendi. Sangeet, etc.

Aattu Kattil

Attu kattil is a swinging piece of wood tied to the roof on all four sides with rope. This is a romantic spot where the couple can capture their moments on film.

Chitra Thoonukal

Pillars in wood with carvings add elegance to the hall portion of the property. It adds a touch of beauty to your whole function.

Mural paintings

These paintings adorn the walls of this ancestral property. Most of them depict stories from Indian epics.
By conducting your wedding ceremonies in these ancestral properties, you can feel the customs and traditions of Kerala with all the beauty and splendor of yester years.
