10 Things To Keep In Mind When Selecting The Wedding Venue!
Your wedding day is one of the most important days of your life. You expect a fairy tale beginning for your relationship and strive to create the same on your big day. This magical event is to culminate on a platform filled with loving friends and family.
The platform or venue is of prime importance on the wedding day, mainly because it is the wedding venue which gives the wedding its completeness.
Wedding venues can range from various types of settings – from grand hotels to historic places and country houses to breezy outdoor locations such as courtyards, sandy stretches of beach to scenic hill stations. The venue’s main purpose is to create an ambiance apt for the wedding celebration and evoke feelings of joy and happiness for the couple and the guests.
Wedding venues must be chosen with great care and diligence because a wedding venue can make or break the wedding.
10 Things To Look For While Selecting A Wedding Venue Are:
1) Availability
It may seem obvious, but the first thing to check while fixing up a wedding venue is the availability of venues. Shortlist a set of potential wedding venues in and around your desired place of the wedding and enquire as to its availability. If it is wedding season, the chances are that you will have to book your wedding venue well in advance.
2) Features and Facilities
A venue must be well-equipped to meet the requirements of the wedding ceremony. There must be a proper place allocated for the live band, a stage to dance and perform, and sufficient space to move around and bring in drinks and food trolleys. Exits should be in such a position that they prevent the main areas of the hall from getting crowded and facilitate proper flow for the wedding guests. Fire exits should be well demarcated and placed strategically.
It is important to know whether the venue has proper generator backing and whether it can accommodate the disabled and offer them special facilities.
Wedding venues must house parlours and changing rooms in order to facilitate other immediate necessities of the wedding ceremony.
3) Style
Each couple has a unique style of celebrating their wedding. With the help of professional event managers, they can recreate this style at their wedding venue.Wedding venues must be flexible enough to accommodate these individual varying styles. Décor and lighting must be coordinated accordingly at the venue.
4) Lighting and Sound
Proper lighting and sound can change the entire mood of the wedding. Dim lights can create an atmosphere of warmth and familiarity while bright glazing lights normally are showy. Inquire at the wedding venue whether candle lights can be used to create a soft glow at the occasion.
Arrangements can be made to highlight chandeliers and LED par cans can be used to create great stage ambiances.
The wedding venue must take maximum advantage of the natural light pouring in, especially if it is a day-time event. Large windows, strategically placed, will ensure that the room is lighted up all the time.
Wedding venues must be checked for efficient audio and video controls. Screens should be placed aptly for the best display for the guests. Venues must be sound-proof to prevent disturbances from outside coming in during the wedding and reception hours.
5) Privacy
Many a couple like private and intimate weddings in secluded areas such as beach stretches and country sides. When choosing a wedding venue, the couple must look into the level of privacy each venue offers. Public auditoriums can invite gate-crashers to the party. Outdoor locations in towns can give a chance for outsiders to peep into the wedding festivities.
Venues chosen must be according to the comfort of the bride and groom and their family. Security settings can be altered by employing guards and other security men. Venue organizers usually provide for these type of men.
If the venue hosts more than one wedding on a single date, there are higher chances of outsiders coming uninvited into the event.
6) Restrictions
Outdoor venues have more restrictions than private party areas. The reasons are obvious. Outdoor venues can invite unwanted attention from passer-bys and loud music can cause disturbances to the surrounding areas. Such kind of restrictions can put a damper on the live band show and dance performances.
Check with the wedding venue organizers whether the families can bring their own alcohol and whether late bars are allowed.
7) Terms and Conditions
When selecting a wedding venue, one must look through the terms and conditions of the contract for the venue, giving attention to tiny details. You may never know when a small and seemingly unimportant clause in the contract can give rise to a huge headache in the future!
The terms and conditions must be flexible enough to incorporate changes according to the nature of the event.
8) Food and menu
What is a party without great food? Make sure your venue can serve according to number and tastes of the guests. At wedding parties, often a wide variety of foods are served, rather than sticking on to just one type, such as traditional or continental. If the menu is insufficient, check with the wedding venue organizers whether they can outsource the catering.
Finalize the number of guests attending the wedding and let the venue organizers know beforehand. Double check with them on the day before the wedding to fix the number so that there will not be any chance of shortages.
Ensure that sufficient provisions are made for the bar and dining area.
9) Photographic Extravaganza
The perfect wedding venue will offer great opportunities for photography. Especially if they are outdoor areas, with the backdrop of nature, your wedding will turn into a photographic treat! For indoor private functions, the photographers can create magnificent clicks with the right amounts of décor and lighting.
10) Budget
Perhaps this is the most important part of the wedding venue selection process.
Many venues may be available in town, but the couple has to decide on economic terms which would be the best option. Prepare a budget before hand with estimates on how much money is to be spent at each aspect of the venue – the décor, the lighting, sound, etc. The wedding venue selection is just a part of the entire wedding planning process so ensure that you choose accordingly.

Thank you sharing these wonderful posts.
Outdoor weddings can be biteauful, but I agree that they may not always bring big cost savings due to rentals, including air conditioning/heating units, restrooms and decor. Weather is a concern, and if you have elderly guests, it’s important to realize that many of them may not be able to stand being outdoors in the sun, wind, etc., for a long time. We went with an indoor location partly for this reason.
Whoa, thigns just got a whole lot easier.
We did an outdoor wdeding and an indoor reception in May. We knew it was going to be a toss-up for a May wdeding to be a clear day, but everything worked out! We wanted the wdeding to be outdoors because we love being outside and going on adventures together. Plus, spring is such a beautiful time of year, with flowers blooming and the weather still being mild. It was a gorgeous day too! We loved everything about our outdoors wdeding. We had the reception indoors to have a back-up in case of rain and it was lots easier to plan/set-up for. +2Was this answer helpful?
