126 Bridesmaids and counting!!
Friday, the 8th on November bore witness to the creation of a brand new Guinness World Record! – One of the world’s biggest weddings with a largest number of bridesmaids – ever!
The Sri Lankan couple, Nisansala and Nalin created a new world record by holding a wedding ceremony with 126 bridesmaids! This extravagant display of colour and pomp was supplemented by the presence of 25 groomsmen, 20 page boys and 23 flower girls!
This Guinness World Record defeated the previous record set by a Thai couple who planned their wedding with 96 bridesmaids.
The theme of the event was deep purple and traditional attire was worn by the bride, groom and bridesmaid party.
This record-breaking idea was conceived by one of Sri Lanka’s noted designers, Champi Siriwardana who took it as a challenge to break boundaries of the traditional wedding. Champu Siriwardana was also the official event planner for the wedding.
The wedding took place at the Avendra Gardens, Negombo, north of Colombo.
Now, that was one very packed wedding!
