Wedding Flowers in Indian Wedding Industry

Indian weddings always have a lot of vivacity and exuberance in them. We owe this to the vibrant wedding flowers which add grace and charm to the auspicious event.

From the beginning till the end, flowers remain an integral part of Indian wedding ceremonies and functions. But not all flowers are favorable for the occasion. Specific wedding flowers with symbolic meanings are preferred over others.

Wedding flowers have different meanings in different cultures. History has witnessed the use of different kinds of wedding flowers in the most diverse, yet adorable ways possible in many ethical and religious marriages. While some are greatly favored in some cultures, they are considered inauspicious in another.

Marigold is the most common flower in Hindu weddings since times immemorial. However, Christians avoid them at their weddings as they believe they bring grief and ill luck. Marigolds, both yellow and orange, are traditional favorites at Indian weddings.

People worship Lord Vishnu and his wife, Goddess Lakshmi, the ideal couple, with marigolds. Hence, using the same at weddings is symbolic of the divine blessings to the newly wed couple for a prosperous life ahead. Marigolds are also representative of the sun. Thus, they symbolize brightness and positive energy bestowed on the couple.

While marigolds take prime importance at weddings, the white jasmine flower comes secondly in terms of popularity. Especially in south Indian weddings, jasmines are extremely popular. Jasmines exude an aura of freshness with their sweet fragnance. They also signify sensuousness and proximity between the couple. The white colour of this wedding flower signifies purity and elegance.

Just like the jasmine, the white lily is also a favourate wedding flower nowadays. Carrying a deep spiritual significance, lilies represent love, happiness and trustworthiness, all three extremely important in a marriage.

Tulips are becoming a favorate in Indian weddings. Using tulips at the wedding signify the public declaration of love towards your beloved. Even before the priest pronounces you as man and wife, using tulips symbolizes your love for one another in the public eye.

While pink roses denote happiness, white signifies charm and grace. But it is the red rose that symbolizes passionate love. A wedding without the beauty and fragrance of the eternal roses is almost unthinkable.
