Fathers and Daughters: The Eternal Bond

A father is every daughter’s first love. And for good reason! Fathers play a significant role in psychological development of their daughters from the moment they are born. A daughter develops a strong sense of self belief if she has a loving and dotting father by her side.

Daughters feel the need to have the support of their fathers in their growing up years to develop their personality and feel secure. Moreover, the bond becomes more significant as the daughter approaches the day she would finally get married and go live with her husband.

Marriage and Role of Fathers:

There is an old saying that, “Every woman may not be a queen to her husband but always remains a princess to her father!”

Marriage ceremonies may be pomp and show for some, a big fat party for others, a celebration of love, joy and laughter for the majority. But for a father and daughter, it is an emotional moment beyond words.

Here’s what our clients say:

The story of Shoba and Amitav:

Shoba and Amitav’s communion represents a marriage of two different traditions. With the groom hailing from Orissa and Shoba’s Tamil Brahmin background, there were chances of some differences in marriage.

But thanks to the support of Shobha’s father who gave his consent lovingly by trusting her choice and honoring her freedom and love, it was a roaring success. He also worked hard to organize the marriage ceremony to make it a memorable affair for the couple and their families.

At her pre-wedding ceremony Shoba acknowledged the love for her father. In her own words: “Appa, thank you so much for organizing the whole wedding. And I can’t even believe you have managed to pull this off by working so hard. You have been my rock, my strength, and everything.”

Shoba became a tad emotional expressing her love for his father signing off by expressing her thoughts with three words, “Love you Appa.”

The inter-religious marriage of Sukhmani and Ronald:

Amidst the modern day lifestyle and razzmatazz, a deep religious orthodoxy prevails in our society. The story of Sukhmani and Ronald, where a Punjabi girl marries a Christian boy with the ever dotting support of the families, especially Sukhmani’s father, is a testimony to the deep-rooted culture of our Indian civilization.

Sukhmani’s father shared memories of the day when he lifted his princess daughter in his arms the day she was born. He made the marriage an affair to remember with his heartwarming speech, showing selfless love by handing over his daughter to the love of her life with a smile hidden covering his moist eyes visible to none.

“Our lives changed with the coming of a new phenomenon to our house as Sukhmani was born,” said Sukhmani’s father in his speech. “This bundle of unrelated force at times needed a bigger force to push her up the bigger steps of accomplishment. This task was conducted by no one other than me her father,” he continues as he shared the responsibility with Ronald, by handing his daughters hand to Ronald in the pre-wedding ceremony.

Fathers and Daughters – An Eternal Bond

Fathers are usually the first teacher in a girl’s life. He is the man who makes his daughter take her first steps, her first bicycle ride, helps her with her first interaction with the world at large. A father-daughter relation is nothing less than a heavenly gift. From being her daughter’s first and last superhero, a father remains the go-to man for her daughter all her life.

For the father too, a daughter may outgrow his lap, but never outgrows his heart as they bind their relationship for a lifetime.

Fathers may have been strict or a tough taskmaster with their daughters, but in the end, it all works out for good. And every Father’s Day, children, especially daughters honor their fathers for everything they have done for them in their lives with selfless love and compassion.
